Contemporary art and a love for chocolate come together in Paris

Lovers of Pop Art and chocoholics all have a rendezvous in Paris this autumn. Until January 21st, 2018, the Musée Maillol presents an exhibition entirely devoted to an art movement that hit its peak in the 60s and 70s. While from October 28th until November 1st chocolate lovers can enjoy tasty surprises and chocolate-themed entertainment at the 23rd edition of the Salon du Chocolat.

Pop culture redefined at the Maillol Museum

In reaction to the abstract current which was then all the rage, in the early 1960s various American artists launched a new trend inspired by a consumer society that was growing at a rapid pace. The results of this new artistic approach to popular culture can now be enjoyed at the Musée Maillol in the exhibition called Pop Art: Icons that Matter. Turning everyday objects and mass media imagery derived from sources such as comic books and advertising into personal expression, artists such as Andy Warhol, Alex Katz and Robert Rauschenberg created pieces that had a staggering impact on the cultural scene, challenging the viewer with their scale or their message. Since it opened in 1930 the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York has assembled an impressive collection of works spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. The current exhibition draws on more than sixty works from this legendary collection, many of which are being seen in France for the first time.

Until January 21st, 2018, at the Musée Maillol. From 10:30 to 18:30 every day and until 21:30 on Fridays.
