The Tuileries Fun Fair and sales bargains make a bright summer

During your stay at the Hotel Sophie Germain this summer you’ll have some wonderful opportunities for both bargain hunting and family fun. The Paris summer sales are in full flow right now, and so is the wonderful fun fair that takes place in the historic Jardin des Tuileries. Come along for a summer of fun and succumb to the unique charm of the capital.

The summer sales 2016

To the excitement of all aficionados of shopping and anyone who gets a buzz from finding a bargain, the Paris summer sales are now reaching their peak. Les Soldes began on June 22nd and run until August 2nd, so there’s still plenty of opportunity to stroll along the boulevards of Paris in search of bargains and that dream fashion item that will put a spring in your step. With six weeks of promotions, exclusive offers, discounts and deals, the twice yearly sales that take place in this most fashion forward of cities are rightly revered by both fashionistas and anyone looking for ready-to-wear at slashed prices. Every year millions of savvy shoppers are drawn to the iconic boutiques of Paris, the capital of luxury and French chic.

But the sales period increases the allure tenfold because those legendary emporia offer greatly reduced prices, sometimes cutting the original prices on goods by 50% or even more as the time of Les Soldes runs its course. Clothing, footwear and fashion accessories, as well as multimedia and household electrical equipment can also be snapped up at prices that will go easy on your flexible friends. Perfect for every budget and for all tastes, these 6 weeks of promotional discounts bring an extra-special effervescence to the capital at this time of the year.

A carnival in the Jardin des Tuileries

The Fête des Tuileries has welcomed visitors for over 20 years, becoming one of the best-loved annual events in Paris. Established by the entrepreneurial showman Marcel Campion, this family celebration par excellence offers over 80 rides and attractions in a privileged setting next to the Place de la Concorde and the Rue de Rivoli, and just a short stroll from the Louvre. From June 25th to August 22nd the historic Jardin des Tuileries is dressed in her colourful and gaudy carnival finery to the delight of all ages.

This is very much a traditional-style fun fair with stands selling candy floss and donuts, and delightful attractions such as a grand old carrousel dating from about 1900, plus a fun house, dodgems and all the sideshows you would expect, as well as the Grand Roue de la Concorde, a Ferris wheel that whirls delighted visitors up into the Parisian sky to enjoy sensational views of the City of Light. Admission to the fairground is free and it remains open until late; 00:45 on weekends and 23:45 on weekdays. It’s the perfect opportunity for parents to revisit the magic of childhood and for the young to indulge in the thrill of rides such as the 6G, which will hurtle them around at 140 km/h!

Make the most of these summer activities when you stay at our hotel. We are ideally located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, close to many public transport options!
